SURFER MAGAZINE VOLUME 2, NO. 3 (1961)

You have to ask yourself what Bob was thinking when he scrawled that note to his friend Lloyd on the cover of this SURFER Magazine more than 40 years ago...couldn't he have used a napkin or matchbook instead of defacing a piece of surfing history? This John Severson cover shot features Ricky Grigg charging Waimea Bay. This issue includes "The Australian Surf," "Toes on the Nose," and Rick Griffin's Murphy and the Surfing Contest, Part II. Also includes a "South Swell" pictorial featuring Laguna Beach, Ala Moana, and Huntington Beach. Plus "Photos from the Readers," and "Big Surf Preview: Be Prepared" by John Severson. Lots of period ads by Bing, Jacobs, O'Neill's Surf Shop, Velzy, Gordie, Ole, Con, Gordon & Smith, Yater, Joe Quigg, and more! This issue is in good or Da Kine condition, about 70 percent of mint. Cover has been written on in blue ink as shown in scan. Cover is detached with tears along staple edge. Interior pages are perfect with no water stains or moisture damage of any kind. Complete and intact with no cutouts or missing pages. Packaged in an archival-quality clear plastic sleeve with an acid-free mat backing board.
