If SURFER Magazine is the bible of the sport, then this issue is the Holy Grail.
This is the most collectible surf magazine of all time, according to Sam Ryan, author of the 1960s Surf Magazine Collector and Price Guide.
Volume 2, No. 1 had the lowest print run of any SURFER Magazine -- only 5,000 copies. This was the first of five quarterlies published by SURFER.
Content includes Rick Griffin's debut with "The Gremies," along with features on Santa Cruz, Rincon, Swamis, and the North Shore. Lots of classic artwork by Publisher John Severson, along with very early period ads by Gordie, Yater, Dave Sweet, Hobie, Jacobs, Harold Walker, Ole, Dewey Weber, and more!
It is estimated that fewer than 50 cherry copies still exist worldwide. This is one of them. This piece is in very good condition, at least 85 percent of mint. Staples are slightly rusty. Corners are bunted slightly. Very light cover and spine wear overall. Complete and intact with no torn or missing pages and no cutouts. No water stains or moisture damage of any kind.
Packaged in an archival-quality clear plastic sleeve with an acid-free mat backing board.
