"SURFING: VOICE OF THE SURFING WORLD" VOLUME 1, NO. 3 (1960)

Surfing: The Voice of the Surfing World was the first monthly publication devoted to surfing, according to Tim De La Vega, author of Surfing Collectibles Guide. It "contained classic articles, poetry, period ads, interviews, and photos by the great names of the time." This premiere edition features articles on Del Cannon, Dewey Weber, Ricky Hatch, and the first published interview with Mickey Dora, a.k.a. "Da Cat." Banner-style headlines make these rare newspapers a classic time capsule for the state of surfing in 1960, De La Vega said. Because of their newspaper format, very few have survived nearly five decades! This copy is in good condition, about 70 percent of mint. Newsprint has yellowed and is started to chip at edges (not surprising for a 50-year-old newspaper!). Small tears affect perimeter. Complete and intact with no torn or missing pages and no cutouts. No water stains or moisture damage of any kind. Very fragile piece of surfing history! Measures approximately 11 1/4 inches wide by 17 inches tall. Editor was John A. Lawrence. Publisher and photographer was Alan J. Adler. Packaged in an archival-quality clear plastic sleeve with an acid-free mat backing board. Click Here for a closer look. Sold at $300.
